I often get asked about the best protein sources for getting lean & toned.
While there are many options out there, one of my go-to choices is lean ground beef.
Not only is it convenient and easy to find, but it’s also packed with nutrients and can be used in various healthy and delicious recipes.
I’ll explain why lean ground beef is good for you and share three of my favorite simple, 5-ingredient or less healthy recipes that you can add to your meal rotation.
Health Benefits Of Lean Ground Beef:
- Protein powerhouse: Lean ground beef is an excellent source of high-quality protein, which is essential for building and repairing muscle tissue. A 4-ounce serving of lean ground beef contains around 22 grams of protein, making it a great option for athletes and active individuals.
- Rich in vitamins and minerals: Lean ground beef is also a good source of several essential vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc, and vitamin B12. Iron is important for maintaining healthy blood cells, while zinc is necessary for a strong immune system. Vitamin B12 helps to keep the nervous system functioning properly.
- Low in calories: While many people think of beef as being high in calories, lean ground beef is actually quite low in calories compared to other types of meat. A 4-ounce serving of 93% lean ground beef contains around 170 calories, making it a great option for those watching their weight.
Now that you know why lean ground beef is good for you, let’s dive into three simple, 5-ingredient or less healthy recipes that you can try:
Recipe 1: Lean Beef Tacos
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 8 taco shells
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/2 cup low fat shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the taco seasoning and stir to combine.
- Heat the taco shells according to the package instructions.
- Divide the beef mixture among the taco shells.
- Top with shredded lettuce and cheddar cheese.
Recipe 2: Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp. honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions:
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes, until tender.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, and garlic.
- Pour the sauce over the beef and broccoli and stir to combine.
Recipe 3: Italian Beef Stuffed Peppers
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 4 bell peppers, halved and seeded
- 1 cup cooked brown or white rice
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded low fat mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
- In a large bowl, combine the beef, rice, and tomato sauce.
- Stuff each pepper half with the beef mixture.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the peppers are tender and the cheese is melted.
Don’t sleep on ground beef. It can be a great base for building meals you enjoy and help you stick to your diet. Having a few simple go-to meals that are quick and easy to make is essential for maintaining a healthy diet.
